Kent Benevolent Triples 2026

On Monday 2nd August, Sue Bennett, Jackie Duke and I made our way to Bellingham Bowls Club to take part in the annual Kent Benevolent Triples, held in aid of the charity which supports members of the Kent ladies’ bowling association who are seriously unwell.

We arrived at around 8.45am, ready for a full day of bowls. A total of 35 teams took part, with 30 ends played over the course of the day in three sets of 10. It turned into a very hot afternoon, so the break after each 10 ends was certainly welcome!

The three of us have now competed together in this event for four years. We won it outright in each of our first two years, which was very exciting, although unfortunately we couldn’t make it three in a row last year.

This year, we were delighted to get back amongst the prizes and finish in second place – was it luck, or was it skill? We were pipped to the top spot by Bromley Town by just one shot, while our own margin over the team in third place was even tighter at only two shots!

Our runners-up finish earned us a gift card each, and we’re already looking forward to next year to see if we can go one better and reclaim the title.

It would be lovely to see another Orpington Excelsior team – or perhaps even two – join us next year. It’s a really enjoyable day out, with plenty of opportunities to catch up with old friends and make some new ones along the way.
